The “hippest trip in America” has pulled the plug on its annual award show. Reuters Life is reporting that the Soul Train Music Awards has been cancelled without explanation. The brainchild of former Chicago DJ Don Cornelius, “Soul Train” was due to celebrate its 22nd award show this year, but a spokeswoman for the program said the show would not go ahead as planned.

LAS VEGAS - A hotel official says Toni Braxton has been hospitalized in Las Vegas. Flamingo Hotel-Casino spokeswoman Deanna Pettit says the 40-year-old singer has an undisclosed ailment that isn't life-threatening.

Braxton was taken to a hospital Monday night.
Pettit says she expects Braxton to be released Tuesday afternoon.

Corinne Bailey Rae’s husband, a saxophonist with the Haggis Horns, Jason Rae was found dead in London on Saturday:

The body of 31-year-old Jason Rae was found around 3:15 PM Saturday, a victim of an apparent drug overdose. Cops reportedly arrested a 32-year-old man for “supplying controlled substances.” He was then released on bail. No word on if his wife was at home.

Rapper Juvenile reportedly didn't attend the funeral of his slain 4-year-old daughter in South Carolina during the weekend. Juvenile's daughter Jelani, her 11-year-old half-sister Micaiah and their mother, Joy Deleston, were buried Saturday in James Island

Deleston's 17-year-old son Anthony Tyrone Terrell Jr. has been arrested for allegedly shooting his three family members to death in Georgia last month. Terrell has been charged with three counts of murder and three counts of aggravated assault.

Toddler Almost Drown While Mom Watches American Idol

A 3-year-old in Indianapolis was hospitalized this week after nearly drowning in a bathtub when her mother went to another room to catch part of last Thursday’s “American Idol” results show. Sheila Brooks, a 25-year-old mother of five kids, was giving a bath to her two youngest – Sirius, 3, and Sereena, 1 – when she stepped out to get some clothes from the bedroom. Instead of returning immediately, she stopped for a few minutes to watch a bit of “Idol” with two of her other kids – Daesheana Twyman, 7, and Dasianaye Twyman, 5, according to the Indianapolis Star newspaper.
“Daesheana stated that they were … watching ‘American Idol’ on TV … and her mother suddenly stated that she forgot and left the two youngest children in the tub,” Officer Gustavia Dodson wrote in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report. Brooks sent Daesheana to finish bathing her little sisters and get them out of the tub. According to police, Daesheana found Sirius submerged underwater and called for her mother, who then performed CPR while Brooks’ brother, 38-year-old Darnell Wilson, called 911.
According to the paper, Brooks may be charged with two counts of neglect. Also, police allegedly found “about an ounce of marijuana, five burnt marijuana cigarettes and a scale,” in Brooks’ bedroom, where the 7- and 5-year-old were watching “Idol.” [source]

This year I watched the entire awards ceremony of NAACP, and I loved it. My chuckle for the night had to be the "Queen of Soul" Ms. Aretha. She had a tribute in which Tyler Perry used repeatly during his tribute speech. If I am not mistakened I think those jabs were at Bey.......Well to defend my Girl Beyonce. I don't think she meant it in a way of saying "Queen of Soul" We all know (heavy D) (biggums) Aretha has that title as she should. Beyonce introduced Tina as a Queen THAT'S IT! People! she didn't say Queen of Soul, Queen of Rock, Queen of R&B... she just said Queen.. Tina's a legend and in her own right is a Queen and deservant to be called a Queen.... I believe a person who got knocked out as much and as hard as she did by the late coke smoker Ike, and still be able to get back up and sell more than she did with him, is well deserved to have the title Queen..... But other than my chuckle from that. There was a tribute to Stevie Wonder which was awesome... sadly to say Wayne Brady did a great job. He was funny(shocker) entertaining, and didn't seem for that split moment like a Uncle Tom...I'm shocked! But overall the entire Awards show was memorable.

We hear from a source within the "Girlfriends" writing camp that the CW has decided to cancel the series immediately instead of bringing it back for a ninth season. While no official announcement had been made as of press time, we were told the CW will not even film this season's remaining nine episodes that were suspended during the writer's strike.

Ironically, news of the show's cancellation comes just as the strike has ended and the writing staff was preparing to return to work. We were informed by one of the writers yesterday that Monday night's one-hour block of new episodes served as the show's last.
